Hair-raising situation

Trichology is the branch of medicine that deals with the scientific study of the health of hair and scalp (Thanks to wikipedia). I read about a conference convened by trichologists. From that I understood hair is a subject dealt scientifically and medically by dermatologists. They are the real experts concerning nails hair and skin. It was mentioned that oil is useful just to straighten hair and it does not nourish hair. Home preparations like soap nuts are advised for nourishing hair, rather than modern toiletry.
-- I remember from the cricketing world one Mr. Hair. If I am not wrong, he is an Umpire. So let me act as an umpire on hair. Hair is the most cherished appendage although a vestigial organ in the human body. Hair lost its original significance, biologically speaking. That is when we have evolved from the animal kingdom. But I vote for hair since I am sure it prevents dust particles entering eyes, ears and nose in favor of certain people [males of course, but not all males as some may not sport hair on their upper lips].
-- In a sense hair gate keeps noses. I know of people who fell in love just with hair alone that too in the first sight. In my days it was Rajesh Khanna’s hair style that used to attract crazy female suitors. Hair triggers love (if it is traced in the food it is altogether a different story, of course that is after marriage)
-- Getting deeper into the realm of hair, the famous Tirupati temple at is the largest collector of hair in its various lengths from the devotees. In recent times TTD is a bit worried about the dwindling collections what with an alternative concept in the faith among the devotees. They are offering only few samples of hair to Lord Venkateswara instead of the whole head. Still they are blessed and will be even for their token offer in good faith. Coming to the saloons in our Hyderabad, the hair stylists are charging high rates for a single hair cut. The other day I am obligated to offer Rs.100/- for just one single hair cut (though multiple cuts were guaranteed on my nape where Dettol was used liberally without any extra charge). These bucks I had to part in addition to the offer of my hair clippings left in the premises. (I don’t know where that salon runs my clippings, whereas the temple exports hair to foreign countries for use by wig manufacturers to get good revenues). -- Now I wonder whether there is a trusted medicine to grow hair. The question goes unanswered to my total satisfaction. From the days of my forefathers the search goes on. At that time they used to sport long hair tied in pigtails or pleats or buns, or just let it fall to their feet, and during the British rule they used to protect their hairdos under hats, Gandhi caps or the good old Indian turbans. I think new hair fashions are fast returning strangely with beards and in multicolor.
-- Wondering why we lose hair, I think the culprits must be some medicines/substances used in our toiletry besides pollution. Thinking philosophically like a true Indian, I cooled myself. Why I should bother and write about a trivial organ (skin is an organ they told me in my Zoology classes way back and now I came to know hair is a part of skin as per tricholgy). But hair is not exactly my Scrips and Bonds in financial parlance. Even I was immune to the wipe out, post-Harshad Mehta scam.
-- Hair is like any other skin cell. So are nails. Skin cells and even body cells in our heart liver etc, keep on building new cells continuously as old cells die. The process depends on the general good health of body system and absence of certain illnesses and deficiencies. It is amazing to note hair and skin cells keep falling all over the beds, carpets, sofas etc in home or outside say in the car, in the park, in theatres, on office furniture, as we walk, talk, sleep, etc. (Of course we have to cut nails at week ends and periodically go the hair stylist.) If we got microscopic vision, we can see clearly that haze or cloud in front of our own eyes at every wakeful moment, a picture containing millions of dead cells flying all around. Thank God. He did not give us that kind of microscopic vision.
-- About growing hair in right places, I feel it is better not to lose much head/hair worrying. I also read one could comb one’s hair one hundred times a day and improve chances of hair growth. Looking into the mirror I am not that keen to comb my hair those many times. It produces static electricity. I may even get a shock out of it. In the end I may look like those characters I watch in one TV ad, appear or disappear in a hair-raising situation.
